Our client faced difficulties consolidating data from multiple wind farms, each with turbines from different manufacturers, into a single accessible repository. The manual extraction of data from various sources (emails, APIs, SFTP folders, manual uploads) was time-consuming, error-prone, and led to delays and inaccuracies in reporting.

Solution Provided by Synetec

Synetec created an Azure data lake and standardised data formats from various sources. They developed Turbine Data Connect, an Azure hosted solution, to automate data extraction, upload, and transformation, ensuring that data was always clean and ready for use.

Key features included:

  1. Autonomous polling of API endpoints and SFTP directories, with a user interface for manual CSV file uploads.
  2. Monitoring of a secure folder for new CSV files and uploads them to the Primary API.

Technical Implementation

The Turbine Data Connect solution was built on the Microsoft tech stack using SQL Database and Azure cloud infrastructure, as well as Bazefield API, and C# .NET. The team faced challenges such as adapting to changing data sets and managing large volumes of data, which required optimising database queries and storage procedures to maintain performance and avoid excessive expansion of the database.
