Modernise how you work

DevOps is a combination of business culture, practices and tools that improve the speed and quality at which software can progress from concept to production; enabling business innovation.

Implementing DevOps practices can significantly accelerate software release cycles whilst still ensuring that your bespoke software applications meet business objectives and quality requirements. However, DevOps can’t just be turned on over night by saying it’s your strategy or purchased through using the cloud. One of the frequent misconceptions we come across is that DevOps is primarily about software tools, particularly those used for the deployment aspects. The truth is that DevOps is so much more than that; which is one of the reasons so many organisations struggle to adopt it successfully.

“DevOps and its resulting technical, architectural, and cultural practices represent a convergence of many philosophical and management movements (including): Lean, Theory of Constraints, Toyota production system, resilience engineering, learning organizations, safety culture, Human factors, high-trust management cultures, servant leadership, organizational change management, and Agile methods.” Gene Kim, Author, Researcher, and Founder of IT Revolution.

What is DevOps?

DevOps combines the practices of software development (Dev) and information-technology operations (Ops) with the aim to shorten the systems development life cycle and provide continuous delivery of software applications.

Len Bass, Ingo Weber, and Liming Zhu, three computer science researchers from the CSIRO and the Software Engineering Institute, defined DevOps as “a set of practices intended to reduce the time between committing a change to a system and the change being placed into normal production, while ensuring high quality”.
