Synetec is proud to announce that we are now certified as compliant with Cyber Essentials!
What is the Cyber Essentials Certification?
The official definition of the Cyber Essentials Certification is “ a Government-backed, industry-supported scheme to help organisations protect themselves against common online threats.”
The practical description of the certification is that it is an acknowledgement that Synetec is using best practices regarding privacy and security. It also recognises that we work in a way that is in line with our peers in the industry and with government standards.
What did we have to do to achieve this certification?
To ensure we were compliant with all the requirements for the certification we undertook an internal audit of our firewalls, policies, and security settings.
We worked with our network provider to ensure we had a stringent firewall and up to date security settings, as well as making sure these are regularly updated.
We also reviewed our internal policies which helped us understand areas in which we were already compliant and areas where we could have more robust security. We then implemented the necessary changes.
Why did we want this certification?
Synetec wanted to achieve this certification to demonstrate we are committed to ensuring the privacy of our customers and our internal staff. As an organisation that builds bespoke software, we handle a lot of confidential data and making sure we’re doing this in a responsible way is crucial.
The accreditation process kick started an audit of internal compliance to our existing internal policies. Simply having a policy is not enough to ensure compliance. Cyber security is the responsibility of everyone who works in our organisation and it is imperative that we are making sure team members are reaching these standards.
While there is no strategy that completely eliminates the risk of attacks or data breaches this certificate has helped us make sure we’re doing everything we can to proactively prevent any issues.
